Our
CommitmentTo the breed:
- to breed the healthy. beautiful typical Bernese Mountain Dog
as to its original standards from its native Switzerland: heavy
boned, square build (click here), 3-coloured, symmetric marks
- Care for and love all our Berners from puppy to senior (we
do not give away or sell our dogs which are no longer in the
breeding program)
- Provide a dog friendly home, include them in family live and
activities, keep them fit and happy for a long and healthy life
- Breed only with healthy, breed typical parents that are
screened and certified for hips, elbows, heart and eyes and of
sound temperament.
- Breed a female only once a year to make sure she recovers
fully from her strong job as a mother of a lively litter of
Berner puppies.
- Give the puppies a clean and family oriented environment so
that they are from the very beginning used to human touch.
- When opening their eyes and ears after approx. 10 days, that
they are getting used to all smells and sounds that are common
in a lively home
- Meet with our other pets and, after their forth week of
life, start the socializing process: meet with other humans of
all kinds from children to seniors, go for little walks which
are extended for a few more minutes every day, so they can
discover the great outdoors: the sun, the rain, the snow, rocks,
sand, grass, sticks and butterflies and if weather conditions
allow, play with their siblings in the outdoor dog run.
- Feed only high quality puppy food
- Meet the Vet for a health check, first booster and
microchips.
- Screen prospective puppy owners carefully, if possible
(distance) have them visiting with us and our dogs before the
decision is made if they are fit to take a puppy into their
lives, to make sure our Berners have the very best future ahead
of them.
To the prospective new Berner Puppy Owners:
- To make sure they get answers to questions about the breed,
it’s positives and also negatives before they decide for a
Bernese.
- Keep the waitlist people up to date on the progress of the
pregnancy and let them know when the puppies are born, have them
updated on the development of the litter and their puppy and get
them to visit with their new family member from the fourth week
of age.
- Provide all information on all questions and problems that
might arise during their waiting time and of course later on
when they have taken their new puppy home after the best of our
knowledge.
- If for whatever reason the new owner is unable to take
proper care of the Bernese purchased from the Mulvehill Kennel,
we will take the dog back at any stage of his life.
